Essex County Freeholders Honor Kira Pipkins of Bloomfield for Winning the 2019 USAW-NJ Girls’ Wrestling Championship

(Bloomfield, NJ) –During its Wednesday, April 10, 2019,meeting at Bloomfield Town Hall the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honoredKira PipkinsofBloomfield for winning the 2019 USAW-NJ Kids Scholastic State Tournament Girls Wrestling Championship, in the 109 lb. Weight Class Division.The Commendation was sponsored by District 5 Freeholder Carlos Pomares of Bloomfield, along with Freeholder President Brendan Gill of Montclair.

Freeholder Pomares shared how proud he and the Board were of Kira for blazing a trail in the sport of Girls wrestling at such a young age.Kira is a 13 year old 8th grade student at Bloomfield Middle School and took home the title at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.She has been wrestling consistently for Bloomfield Recreation since the 3rd grade,and has wrestled with Total Force Wrestling Club in Pine Brook, New Jersey,since 2018.She finishedthewinter 2018-2019 wrestling season as a Bloomfield Recreation Senior Team Co-Captain.

Hermost recent titles include: 1st place USAW-NJ Kids Scholastic State Tournament (14and underGirls Division 109 lbs.); 1st place 2019 USAW-NJ Girls Middle School Nationals(14and underGirls Division 110 lbs.); and 4th place 2019 Suburban Junior Wrestling League County Tournament (112 lbs.).

In addition to wrestling, Kira is an A+ student, an avid reader, and an artist. She is the daughter of her proud parents Shantale and Robert Pipkins,and enjoys recreational tumbling, gymnastics and baking cookies. She plans to compete in the National Tournament of Champions in Ohio this month.
